Government of Banten Addresses Public Complaints: Road Repairs and River Normalization

BANTEN, FOCUS NEWS
- The Governor of Banten, Andra Soni, announced that the provincial government will assist with the repair of roads in Warung Jaud, Kasemen, owned by the Serang City Government. Additionally, there will be a normalization of Kali Malang, a drainage channel in the Cibanten River Basin (DAS Cibanten) and downstream Cibanten River, which falls under the authority of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing's C3 Directorate General.

Addressing Flooding and River Narrowing

Based on public complaints, there has been siltation and narrowing of DAS Cibanten in Warung Jaud, leading to floods and road damage. Governor Soni emphasized the need for dredging the silted river.

> “This area often floods because of siltation. We need to dredge the river,” said Andra Soni during his visit on Sunday (9/3/2025).

In addition to siltation, there is narrowing in the downstream of DAS Cibanten. Governor Soni has directed the provincial government to coordinate with the Serang City Government to regulate buildings in the narrowing river area.

Coordination and Immediate Actions

Governor Soni inspected the conditions of DAS Cibanten, checking water intensity and analyzing flood causes in Kasemen, Serang City.

Arlan Marzan, the Head of Banten Province's Public Works and Spatial Planning Department, stated that they would coordinate with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing's C3 Directorate General for the dredging of DAS Cibanten in Warung Jaud.

> “We will address it immediately. Physical normalization of the river will follow,” explained Arlan.

Regarding public complaints about road repairs in Warung Jaud, Kasemen, the Serang City Government has been authorized to intervene in infrastructure development according to the regulations.

> “Road repairs will also be intervened by the Banten Provincial Government,” concluded Arlan.

Local Government and Community Response

Ahmadi, the Head of Warung Jaud Sub-district, confirmed the public's complaints about siltation and infrastructure damage. The community also sent an open letter to the sub-district head to address these issues.

> “The community sent us a letter requesting to address the siltation in DAS Cibanten, causing flooding in Warung Jaud,” he said.

High water intensity from Serang City entering DAS Cibanten has led to infrastructure and agricultural damage in Warung Jaud.

> “A week before the flood, the road was repaired and hot-mixed. Now it’s damaged again due to flooding,” added Ahmadi.

Ahmadi hopes that the Serang City Government and Banten Provincial Government will follow up on the community's requests.

> “We are very grateful for the Governor's visit and hope the issues will be resolved,” he concluded.
