Strategic Collaboration with BKKBN to Improve Human Resources

Banten Governor Champions Family Planning to Boost Human Capital

FOCUS BANTEN NEWS
- Banten Governor Andra Soni emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration with the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) to enhance the province's human capital.

Speaking during the virtual launch of the Indonesian Model Father Movement (GATI) and a mass vasectomy service held at the Menes District Office in Pandeglang on Monday (April 21, 2025), Andra highlighted family planning (FP) as a critical part of the region’s development strategy.

“We see BKKBN as a strategic partner in our efforts to improve the quality of human resources in Banten and to ensure effective implementation of the family planning program,” he stated.

He added that cross-sector cooperation is key to addressing various social challenges.

“We believe collaboration is essential to overcoming any problem,” Andra affirmed.

Family Planning Is Smart Planning

Calling it a forward-looking approach, Andra described family planning as ‘cool’, stressing its relevance in shaping a healthier, more educated generation.

“Family planning is not only important—it’s smart. It’s a tool for building a better future,” he said, encouraging the public to take part in making the program a success.

Fathers Play a Key Role in Raising Future Leaders

Andra also echoed BKKBN’s call for greater father involvement in child-rearing, pointing out its influence on a child’s decision-making and leadership skills.

“I completely agree with what the Minister said about fathers. Their presence during a child's formative years helps shape character, especially in how children handle problems and make decisions,” he noted.

One in Five Indonesian Children Lack a Father Figure

In his speech, Minister of Population and Family Development and BKKBN Head Wihaji shared concerning findings: nearly 21% of Indonesian children grow up feeling the absence of a father figure.

“Fathers must be present and emotionally available, especially when their children are between 12 to 18 years old. These years are crucial,” he explained.

He pointed to studies that show a father’s influence on a child’s leadership abilities and self-confidence, noting that these are the qualities Indonesia needs in its future generations.

“This is why we launched the Indonesian Model Father Movement—GATI,” Wihaji said.
