FOKUS LEBAK - The Banten Provincial Government is targeting the development of 9,000 hectares of corn farmland in Lebak Regency to support food self-sufficiency and meet the needs of the animal feed industry.
The initial phase begins with corn planting on 10 hectares of land using seeds provided by the Banten Provincial Government. The effort was marked by the launch of the Hybrid Corn Planting Movement in Maja District.
High Demand Pushes Production Expansion
Banten Governor Andra Soni said the demand for corn in the market remains very high. This condition has driven the regional government to accelerate corn cultivation development.
“The hope is that Banten can become a corn production center. At the very least, it should meet the needs of local industry and agriculture, as current market demand for corn remains very high,” he said.
Head of the Banten Provincial Agriculture Office, Nasir, stated that there are 14 animal feed factories in Banten requiring 4,000 tons of corn per day.
Idle Land Utilization to Support National Program
The Governor emphasized the importance of utilizing idle land, including land owned by developers, to support President Prabowo Subianto’s Food Security program.
The development target of 9,000 hectares is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture. The program is expected to significantly increase the productivity of local farmers.
Strategic Advantage Strengthens Competitiveness
Andra Soni highlighted Banten’s geographical advantage as a supplier for the Jakarta agglomeration area. The shorter distance is expected to reduce logistics costs.
“If we become a supplier to the agglomeration areas, we are greatly advantaged in terms of distance and logistics costs. This will increase the competitiveness of our farmers’ products,” he added.
During the event, the Governor also appreciated the Banten Police for initiating land utilization to support food security.
He also encouraged farmers to properly maintain their crops to achieve optimal harvest results.
